Our Team
Mr Joseph Butler
Lead Spinal Surgeon
BMedSc MB BCh BAO MA PhD FFSEM FESEM FEBOT FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Mr. Butler completed surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He subsequently completed clinical fellowship training in complex spine deformity and tumour surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, UK; spine trauma and degenerative spine surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA; and complex, revision and minimally invasive spine surgery at the Rothman Institute, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA.
Mr. Butler is an active clinical and laboratory researcher and has been awarded a PhD in bone biology by University College Dublin. He has over 100 publications and 100 presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He has 40 major national and international awards for his research work and is on the editorial board of several major journals in the fields of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery and Spine Surgery.

Andrea Flannery
Clinical Nurse Specialist
Andrea is our Clinical Nurse Specialist at Elite Spine. Her background in nursing includes acute medical and surgical nursing roles, before then specialising in Emergency and Trauma Nursing in 2015. She holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, where she spent three years in a senior nursing role. Andrea also hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing from UCD.
Andrea has a keen interest in Orthopaedic Nursing, specifically management of spinal injuries, prevention of secondary injury and rehabilitation. She has also worked as part of an emergency trauma/resuscitation team at many sporting and music events.
Andrea's role in Elite Spine is to guide each patient through their individual journey, whether that be a surgical or non-surgical route. She is available to answer any questions or concerns our patients may have. She also acts as our liaison between our Consultant and various allied professionals which may be involved in your care.
Andrea is co-author of a book chapter entitled; Pressure Ulcer Management in Spinal Injury Patients: Pathophysiology, Treatment and Prevention, in a book entitled; “Cervical Spine Injuries: Epidemiology, Long-Term Outcomes and Complications”. ISBN: 978-1-63463-598-1; Nova Publishers.
Bríd Ní Laoire
Clinical Nurse Specialist
Brid qualified with a Bachelor of Science degree in Intellectual Disability Nursing from DCU which concentrated on the care of children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Brid subsequently completed a post-graduate Bachelor of Nursing degree in General Nursing from Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland.
On return home to Dublin Brid developed a keen interest in Orthopaedic Nursing and worked on a busy orthopaedic ward at the Mater Private Hospital. Her experience includes the pre and post operative care of surgical patients including spinal surgery, joint replacement surgery and neurosurgery.
Brid's role here at Elite Spine is to provide support and education to patients and their families in spine health, be it on a surgical or non-surgical basis. She also assists Mr. Butler in the role of operating theatre assistant and follows the patients post operative journey on the ward and at home. She is always at hand to provide care and advice in meeting patients individual post operative goals.
Conor McBride
Executive Assistant
Conor is Mr Joseph Butler's Executive Assistant and overall manager at Elite Spine. He graduated from Rathmines College with a Certificate in Finance and E-Business in 2002 and a UCD/ MMUH Accredited Certificate in Green Belt Lean Management from 2015.
Conor has a great deal of experience working in health care administration having worked in the Orthopaedic Department in the Mater Public Hospital for several years where he was the Grade V supervisor in Oncology in the Mater Public Hospital before he took up my role at Elite Spine.
His role at Elite Spine is to book appointment's, deal with phone queries and arrange any scans or tests for patient's. He also looks after the day to day activities at Elite Spine and, as a patient with Elite Spine, he will be the person you will be liaising with.
